This lunchtime I acquired a copy of Horace Vachell's "The Hill" from the Oxfam bookshop, first published 1905, this edition 1942. The cover shows a young blond man towering over a a murky cathedral-like building in what I can only assume to be his vest and pants. The blurb: "A romance of Friendship.
